Iowa Voters Say Competition Keeps Rates Lower
A poll of Iowa voters show they support competition as a way to keep electric rates low and oppose right of first refusal legislation being considered by the legislature.
The legislation (HF 2551) limits competition on who can build electric transmission lines – the large powerlines that carry electricity from power generating facilities to your local utility – and essentially automatically grant current incumbent utility providers the right to build any new transmission lines in their service area instead of allowing a competitive bidding process to take place.

What Iowa Voters Think About Right of First Refusal Legislation
Voters want their legislators fighting for them, not the interests of utilities..
Iowa voters support competition for power line construction because it leads to lower costs for everyone. Consumers suffer when legislators give special rights to incumbent utilities.
Right of First Refusal proposals favoring incumbent utility companies fly in the face of the principles that made America great, like competition, free markets, and freedom.
Voters in Iowa agree that Right of First Refusal laws just end up as legal battles and that we don’t need to be spending more money on lawyers and lawsuits. They think we should be spending it on schools and roads instead.
Iowa voters agree legislators should fight for lower rates, and not support anti-competition legislation that increases utility bills for Iowa families.
